Thrush and Breasfeeding

My 2 month old daughter had thrush. She’d had it for over a month and I didn’t even know it. I always though thrush was supposed to look like cheese curds inside the mouth. In my daughter it was just a white toungue that looked like milk residue.

I first new something was wrong when I was breastfeeding and she would continuously pop off the breast and cry or fuss. It got the point where I could barely get her to eat and sometimes just offering her the breast would cause her to turn away and cry. It was sad that the thought of breastfeeding was so upsetting to her. I took her to the doctor and public health nurse to see if she had acid reflux. They both said that she did not since she was not spitting up at all. Surprisingly, neither suggested that it could be thrush.

For the next month she continued to fuss and cry while eating. I knew something was wrong, but I just didn’t know what. I saw that she had a white tongue but I just thought it was milk residue. Finally I decided to look more into thrush just in case and sure enough, that’s exactly what it was.

For the next 10 days we treated my daughter with the medicine the doctor prescribed. After only a day she was already eating better. She still had the white tongue for over a week though, that took a bit longer to go away.

She’s eating so much better since we got rid of the thrush! And lucky for me, I never got it. She’s a new baby now, so much more cheery and alert!

No Sit Down

My son is now almost 2 and is starting to talk like crazy! He just says the cutest things. He said his first 3 word sentence the other day – “No sit down”.

Since my son was born he has always demanded that we stand while holding him. Even as a newborn he would cry every time we tried to sit down with him. To this day he still expects us to stand while we’re holding him, of couse we can’t always comply since he is getting bigger by the day!

The other day I tried to sit down with him and he said “No sit down.” He was finally able to express this desire in words for the first time! So cute. Of course I sat down anyway since we are trying to teach him that he can’t have his own way all the time. He wasn’t impressed, as usual.

Choosing the right Nursing Top

There are many fabulous nursing tops out there.  How do you decide which ones are right for you?  Here are a few pointers to help you pick the right nursing tops for you.

Answering the following four questions and understanding which styles compliment your answers will prepare you for your shopping adventure:

  1. Do you want to show some clevage or wear a more modest top?
  2. Do you plan to wear the nursing top at home or out with friends?
  3. Do you want need super quick and easy access (like when your half asleep at night), or do you have time to prepare before feeding?
  4. Do you want maximum discresion or can you show a little boob?

Sexiness vs Modesty

If you want a sexy top that shows off your clevage then go with a v-neck top such as the Nursing Button Top or the Nursing Pearl Edge Top.

If you want a more modest top then go with a higher cut scoop neck or square neck top such as the Nursing Bubble Top or the Soft Pleat Tunic.

Casual or Fashion

If you want your nursing tops to be used for a casual night at home then pick something that is comfortable and can be easily washed and dried. My choice would be one of our Nursing Henley’s such as the Stripe Double Layer Nursing Henley or the Double Layer Henley. Both of these styles can be dried in the dryer.

If you want a Nursing Top to go out with your friends check out our Fashion Tops section for tops that are more fashionable. Keep in mind that many of these tops should lie flat to dry and not be put in the dryer.

Quick and Easy Access

If you are buying PJs that will be used during the night you should choose something that has the easiest breast access possible since you don’t want to have to fiddle with your top at night. My suggestion would be any top that has an opening type of Pull-Aside or Pull-Under. The Pull-Aside is a top where the v-neck pull to the side of the breast. The Pull-Under top is one where the neck stretches to be pulled underneath the breast. Check out The Pajanaman for an example of a PJ with pull-aside access.

Maximum Discresion

Do you want maximum discresion while your feeding, or are you able to show a little boob? If you want maximum discresion be sure to choose a top that has the opening style of Pull-Up or Pull-Aside with Underlayer. The Pull-Up tops lifts from he bust line over the breast. This type of opening allows the top of the breast to remain covered for maximum discresion. The Pull-Aside with Underlayer is a top where the Neck pulls to the side of the breast, but there is a second layer underneath the pull-aside to keep the top and side of the breast covered. Consider these tops for maximum discresion: The Tipped Bodice Top or the Double Layer Henley.
